What is “Creative”?

In marketing and advertising, “creative” is the catch-all term for the ideas, visuals and messages that bring a brand’s story to life. It’s everything a person sees, hears or feels, from a clever headline or logo to a social video or billboard ad. Creative can take dozens of forms but at its core, creative is all about communicating with intention and making people care enough to take action.

How Does it Work

A creative department is a mix of specialists who bring different strengths to the table. Creative directors guide the overall vision, making sure every piece fits the strategy and elevates the brand. Copywriters craft the language, shaping tone, story and message. Designers handle the visuals through color, layout, typography, imagery and all the details that make a brand feel consistent and compelling. You’ll also see art directors, editors, motion designers, photographers and illustrators contribute, depending on the project. Together, the team balances imagination with strategy to create work that’s both beautiful and effective.

Our Approach

We start with strategy: the audience, the message and the action we need to inspire. Once the direction is clear, the creative team develops concepts that bring that strategy to life with clarity and emotion. Our creative directors, writers and designers refine the work together, shaping visuals, language and tone with intention. Every choice is purposeful and tied back to the goal to develop creative that truly connects, persuades and moves people to act.

Our Creative Makes an Impact

In 2023 ND Tourism needed to increase visitation to North Dakota even though their budget was cut 20%. To help them reach their goals, we launched the “Hello” campaign, a warm, friendly reintroduction to North Dakota. Our creative work introduced potential visitors to a North Dakota that is genuine, modern and inviting through engaging visuals and welcoming copy. The “Hello” campaign has since won multiple regional and international awards. Most importantly, it drove a 15% increase in visitation despite the lower budget.
