When the City of Jamestown, North Dakota approached us in early 2024, they faced a common challenge that many communities grapple with, three separate entities each operating with their own distinct brand. Jamestown Tourism, the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Jamestown each had their own logo which resulted in a fragmented brand presence.
The City of Jamestown’s existing tourism brand, last updated in 2014, no longer served their evolving digital marketing needs and the community also had a perception problem. Many saw Jamestown as merely "the rest stop community”, a place people pass through rather than a destination.
The three entities wanted to maintain their individual missions while presenting a unified front to drive tourism and economic development, build community pride, eliminate confusion between organizations and create a modern, digital-friendly brand system.
Our final design centered around a bold, modern interpretation of Jamestown's most recognizable symbol, the buffalo.
The design balances Jamestown's rich history with its forward-looking vision, creating a modern feeling logo that combines Jamestown's history and long association with buffalo and the rugged outdoor life while also signifying a community that's forward looking.
Streamlined and bold, the buffalo integrates seamlessly with the wordmark or stands alone as needed. This flexibility allows each entity to use the core design elements while maintaining distinct identities through multiple variations. Clean lines and high contrast ensure the system performs equally well on business cards, billboards, and social media platforms.
The Jamestown brand refresh demonstrates how thoughtful design can unite organizations under a shared vision. By honoring the past while embracing the future, we are helping transform perceptions and create a destination that visitors are excited to discover.
